KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Aug 2009: A seven-month-old boy and a 74-year-old woman are the latest victims of Influenza A(H1N1),
raising the death toll in the country to 64.
Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican, said as of 9am today, 284 A(H1N1) patients were being treated in wards, while 33 patients were being treated in intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country. Of the 33 cases, 17 were found to have high-risk factors.
He said the seven-month-old infant, who was suffering from asthma, was admitted to the ICU on 7 Aug for two days due to fever, cough and breathing difficulties.
“However, the infant died on 15 Aug due to severe pneumonia with acute respiratory failure,” Ismail said in a statement here today.
He said the woman, who was suffering from diabetes and cardiac failure, was admitted to hospital on 10 Aug after losing consciousness at home. She died on 12 Aug due to severe pneumonia. — Bernama

The government should be blamed for the death of innocent people……..their desire to manipulate the H1N1 for political mileage caused the death of this people and I still do not believe the figures they are publishing [of] the death count. For a country of 1 billion, India has just recorded 26 deaths compared to our country of 27 million recording 64…….PM should take responsiblity ………..wrong move, disastrous results.
