KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Jan 2009: Twenty-one people, 18 of them motorcyclists, were killed in road accidents throughout the country yesterday.
This raises to 131 the number of deaths on the ninth day of the Ops Sikap operation launched to reduce road accidents during the Chinese New Year holiday period.
Bukit Aman public relations chief Supt Rasdi Ramli said today, of the three others killed, two were motorists and one a pedestrian.
He said in a statement that 869 accidents were reported yesterday, 102 of which occurred on highways, 292 on federal roads, 169 on state roads, 269 on municipal roads and 37 on other roads.
He also said that 9,477 summonses were issued yesterday for various traffic offences. — Bernama
