KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Aug 2008: Malaysian National Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) president Muhamad Ali Naina Mohamad today refuted allegations that the party no longer supported the Barisan Nasional (BN), and that it was joining the opposition.
“The allegation by former Kimma National Youth chief Datuk Thajudeen Mohideen is a lie to divide the Indian Muslim community,” he said in a statement.
On 23 Aug, Thajudeen announced at a media conference that he was leaving Kimma together with 850 members of the party’s Youth wing.
Muhamad Ali Naina said the Kimma supreme council did not discuss the matter at its 2 Aug meeting, and instead pledged its full support for the BN, and Umno.
However, at the official opening of the new Kimma headquarters in Sentul on 16 July, Muhamad Ali Naina had said that Kimma was considering joining the Pakatan Rakyat, or protesting if its application to join the BN for the sixth time was rejected. – Bernama
