PUTRAJAYA, 25 Aug 2008: Only the mufti can decide whether the swearing by Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan that he had been sodomised by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was in line with Islam, not the imam who was present during the ceremony, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
He said apart from Saiful, the mufti was the main person at the swearing ceremony while the imam was only present and did not play a principal role.
The deputy prime minister was asked to comment on the announcement by imam Ramlang Porigi that he “had been instructed” by his superiors to witness Saiful’s swearing on the Quran.
Saiful, Anwar’s former aide, swore at the Federal Territory Mosque in Kuala Lumpur on 15 Aug that Anwar had sodomised him. – Bernama
