KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Jan 2009: Nine people died in road accidents nationwide yesterday, bringing the death toll since the launch of the Ops Sikap on 19 Jan to 20.
Bukit Aman public relations officer Supt Rasdi Ramli said the victims comprised seven motorcyclists, a car passenger and a cyclist.
Municipal roads recorded the most number of accidents with 520 cases followed by federal roads (226), state roads (143), highways (78) and other roads (44), he said in a statement today.
He said the Ops Sikap yesterday also saw 8,896 summons issued.
The 19th Ops Sikap will run until 2 Feb aimed at minimising road accidents during the Chinese New Year. — Bernama
