SEPANG, 2 Feb 2009: The two state assemblypersons in the centre of a power struggle between Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional in Perak state have denied resigning their seats or planning to switch parties.
Jamaluddin In separate press statements today, both Jamaluddin Mat Radzi and Capt (R) Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu dispute Perak state assembly speaker V Sivakumar’s announcement yesterday that they had sent in their resignations letters as Behrang and Changkat Jering assemblypersons respectively.
Both Pati Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) assemblypersons have denied sending the letter.
Though both men did not turn up for their respective press conferences today, representatives read out their statements

Jamaluddin’s special officer Firdaus Shaharuddin said at a press conference here that the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) elected rep for Behrang intended to go to court to challenge Sivakumar’s announcement that he had resigned his post.
Firdaus also explained that Jamaluddin was still a PKR member and had not resigned as assemblyperson.
“YB masih YB,” said Firdaus, who fielded some questions after reading out a short press statement from Jamaluddin.
Explaining that Jamaluddin was not present at the press conference as he was ill, Firdaus also told the press that his boss had not “gone missing” and had not been “kidnapped”.
“YB is on his way back to Kuala Lumpur from Pahang,” said Firdaus.
He also denied knowing anything about a police report allegedly lodged this morning in Shah Alam on the matter.
A news report today stated that a representative of Jamaluddin and Osman lodged police reports at the Shah Alam Section 11 police station here at 2am today, denying that they had resigned from their posts.
At today’s press conference, Firdaus maintained that Jamaluddin was not well and had sent a medical chit to the Perak state government on 28 Jan.
He also denied that Jamaluddin had met with Umno leaders over the past few days.
Jamaluddin, in his press statement, said that media reports that he had tendered his resignation were totally false.
“I am still serving as an elected representative, and until now I have no plans to relinquish my post as I have been elected by the people,” he said.
“Regarding allegations that I have ‘gone missing’ because I want to switch parties, I would like to clarify that I have never gone missing or run away from any party,” he added.
Jamaluddin went on to explain that he was not in Perak yesterday, “so how could I have sent my resignation to the speaker’s house?”
He also said he would continue his duties and responsibilities as usual, adding that the issue of whether he has switched parties does not arise.
In SHAH ALAM, Osman said he planned to continue as the elected representative in Changkat Jering and serve his constituency as usual.
“I never went to the Perak state assembly speaker’s residence to hand in my resignation letter as alleged,” Osman said in a statement read out by a representative, Puzi Ghazali.
He also expressed hope that Pakatan Rakyat leaders, especially those from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, will stop making unfounded accusations about him.
“Until now the question of me switching parties has not arisen,” Osman said.
