SEREMBAN, 2 Sept 2008: Seremban Umno division vice-head Mohd Nor Awang, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to two counts of corruption in connection with the party elections.
Mohd Nor, 47, a businessman, is charged with giving a RM200 bribe to Taman Zaiton Indah Umno branch head Rezwat Shahril Zainal Ariffin. The bribe was an inducement for Rezwat Shahril to nominate him at the branch’s general meeting on 3 Aug as candidate for the post of Seremban Umno division head for the 2008-2011 term.
He allegedly committed the offence in a car at a parking lot behind Taman Catleya, Senawang, at about 12.20pm on 1 Aug.
He faces a second charge of giving another RM500 to Rezwat Shahril as inducement for the same purpose at the same place at about 4.30pm the following day.
Judge Allaudeen Ismail allowed bail of RM3,500 with one surety and fixed 28-29 Jan 2009 for trial.
Mohd Nor was represented by counsel Abdul Halim Lokman while deputy public prosecutor Mohd Asnawi Abu Hanipah of the Anti-Corruption Agency appeared for the prosecution. – Bernama
