TAWAU, 10 Feb 2009: Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar gave his assurance today that all the police reports lodged against DAP chairperson Karpal Singh over his move to take the Sultan of Perak to court would be studied.
He said after the reports have been studied, the police would seek the advice of the Attorney-General on further action to be taken.
“We thank each of the organisations which gave their support or made calls for action to be taken but since they have made police reports, let the police investigate.
“We are careful before taking action against anyone. We are also sensitive to the worries and concern of the people when the royal institution is condemned, insulted or ridiculed. The monarchy is the basis of our nationhood and we want all quarters to respect this institution.”
Syed Hamid was speaking to reporters after delivering a talk on the Internal Security Act at the Tawau Library auditorium, here, last night.
He was commenting on the many reports by various organisations in the country over Karpal’s statement that he would be filing a suit against Sultan Azlan Shah.
“As Malaysians, we must not only respect the laws but also the institutions like the constitutional monarchy that form the pillar of our nation.
“Understanding of and adherence to a national institution which espouses tolerance and harmony are important in ensuring continued peace and stability in the country.
“We definitely do not tolerate those who defy and ridicule a national institution as the strength of a nation is founded on its civilisation, which is buttressed by honour and respect for that institution that we built,” he said.
Syed Hamid also reminded all quarters not to send or spread messages which incite anger or hatred in the people. — Bernama
Maozi says
Selective investigation, as usual.
You may be amazed at how FAST and FURIOUS our government law enforcers can be at SOME cases (against non-BN), while SLOW and SLUGGISH at MANY others (robbery, bombing, etc).
As for our dear ministers Syed Hamid Albar and Azalina, we are speechless on their eagerness in advocating ISA.
David Anthony says
On the reactions against Karpal accusing him of treason, on using the ISA on him and on revoking his citizenship – these sound extreme when he merely threatened to take the sultan to court. Nizar, on the other hand, actually defied the sultan and why is there no outcry against him? There is an obvious display of the racial card here.
