BAU, 2 MARCH 2009: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is expected to meet on 5 March to discuss the candidate for the Batang Ai state by-election.
Its secretary-genral Wilfred Nissom said until now, the party had not made a final decision on the matter. But they had identified a suitable candidate, “a local”, he said.
“[President Datuk Sri James Jemut Masing] will let you know. I cannot say anything,” he told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony for members of the Bau district council here today.
He said the candidate was a person known not only to the upper echelon of the party but also to the locals and the grassroots.
The by-election is being held following the death of assemblyman Datuk Dublin Unting Ingkot on 4 Feb. In the May 2006 state election, Dublin Unting, standing as a Barisan Nasional candidate from PRS, defeated Nicholas Bawin Anggat of the Sarawak National Party with a 806-vote majority.
The Election Commission will meet on 4 March in Kuching to set the nomination and polling dates. — Bernama
