KUCHING, 5 March 2009: Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth has formed a working committee chaired by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth head Mong Dagang to garner support from young voters in the 7 April Batang Ai by-election.
Fadillah Yusof, the state BN Youth and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief said their main role was to canvass for support from voters aged below 45 to ensure BN retained the state seat.
“We will adopt an approach-and-listen attitude,” he said after chairing the state BN Youth supreme council meeting today.
He said Sarawak BN Youth was confident the method would enable them to gauge
grassroots views, especially from the younger generation, in Batang Ai.
Fadillah said based on feedback from the target group there, Sarawak BN Youth would work out a strategy to win their support, and to ensure they remained loyal to the BN.
Yesterday, the Election Commission fixed 29 March as nomination day for the Batang Ai state seat by-election following the death of its assemblyperson Datuk Dublin Unting Ingkot on 24 Feb after failing to recover from a stroke in May last year.
In the last state elections in May 2006, Dublin won the Iban-majority seat by defeating Nicholas Bawin Anggat from the Sarawak National Party (SNAP) by 806 votes.
In PETALING JAYA, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) organising secretary Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui said the party’s election machinery would be mobilised in Batang Ai early to ensure victory for BN.
“We will work hard to ensure the seat remains with BN. That is our commitment,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a technical and licensing agreement between OCNED Water Technology Sdn Bhd and Sumitomo Heavy Industries Environment Co Ltd today. Bernama
