PUTRAJAYA, 16 Sept 2008: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government will remain in power despite the opposition’s plan to take over the government today.
"We are always confident. We have been confident that the same government will be in office.
"That’s why we chose 16 Sept (to launch the project)," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of agreement on the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) project between the government and Telekom Malaysia Berhad at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.
Najib said he chose today to launch the project as he was confident that the same government would be in power.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is the new Permatang Pauh MP, had said that the opposition had more than 30 MPs who are going to defect from the BN and set 16 Sept as the date it would take over the federal government.
"This is the project to herald a new future for Malaysia. This is a project of concept of modern Malaysia.
"This is a project to indicate how progressive the present government is," he said.
Asked on Anwar’s claim that he had the numbers to form the next government, Najib said: "Yes, he can say all kinds of things. Let him say that."
Earlier, Najib said the opposition was engaging in politics of deception and clearly the claim to take over the government would not become a reality. – Bernama
