KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Sept 2008: Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Ismail, deputy secretary-general (development) of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry, has been made the ministry’s secretary-general effective 23 Sept 2008 under several new appointments and transfers announced today.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said in a statement that Mohd Mokhtar, 55, who holds a masters degree in economics from the University of Kalamazoo, Western Michigan, in the United States, succeeds Datuk Dr Zulkifli Idris who goes on mandatory retirement on 22 Sept.
Mohd Mokhtar, who joined the civil service as an administrative and diplomatic officer on 6 Dec1976, has wide experience in the development of agricultural economics and entrepreneurship.
Sidek also announced the emplacement of Mahzum Ariffin, deputy secretary-general (human resources) of the Education Ministry, as deputy director-general (planning and development) in the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department.
Mahzum, 55, who holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Universiti Malaya, has wide experience in human resource management and public administration.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohmad Mohmad Isa Hussain, deputy under-secretary (investment, MKD and privatisation) in the Finance Ministry, has been appointed as deputy secretary-general (management) of the Transport Ministry.
Mohmad Isa, 51, who holds a doctorate in financial economics from Universiti Putra Malaysia, takes over from Dr Ismail Jamaluddin who has been transferred as under-secretary (policy and strategic planning) in the Information Ministry.
Deputy secretary-general (management) of the Youth and Sports Ministry Datuk Mohid Mohamad has been emplaced as deputy secretary-general (operations) of the ministry.
Mohid, 51, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Southeast Asian studies from Universiti Malaya, takes over from Muhamad Batri who has been transferred to the Public Service Department.
Mohid’s post has been taken over by Borhan Dolah, head of the professional development programme, Institute of Public Administration (Intan).
Borhan, 49, holds a masters degree in public administration from the University of Hartford, United States.
All the appointments are effective today. – Bernama
