BALIK PULAU, 10 April 2009: Police yesterday nabbed a welder for possession of seven marijuana plants that he was growing in his house in Sungai Pinang.
Barat Daya police district chief Supt Hatta Md Zain said based on information and surveillance, police raided the house at about 5.45pm and arrested the 22-year-old man.
“We found seven ganja plants estimated to be two-months-old and planted in flower pots in the rented house,” he said at a news conference here today.
He said after checking, police found a packet that contained marijuana and marijuana resin.
“The plants can mature in five months and yield 200 grams of ganja,” Hatta said.
Hatta said the plants were sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.
“We are trying to establish if the man was growing the plants for his own use, for sale or [for other reasons],” he said.
Hatta said the man, who tested positive for marijuana, was remanded for seven days for further investigation.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a life sentence upon conviction. — Bernama
