PENANG, 22 Sept 2008: Penang Gerakan has called on the federal government to set up a land transport authority in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).
The authority should be tasked with coordinating, integrating and upgrading the bus and taxi services in the state, it said in a statement, today.
This was among six resolutions adopted by the Penang Gerakan Delegates Conference which concluded here, yesterday.
Penang Gerakan also urged the federal government to go ahead with the Penang Outer Ring Road (PORR) and Light Monorail Transit (LMT) projects.
“PORR could help disperse traffic from congested main roads in Georgetown while the LMT could be the backbone of an integrated public transportation system in the state,” it said.
Other resolutions include urging the federal government to implement more flood mitigation projects in the state as most of the previous projects were built 20 years ago.
The party also called on the federal government to table the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) annual reports and pertinent documents in parliament. – Bernama
