KUALA LUMPUR, 18 June 2009: The Examination Board will introduce a modular system to replace the existing terminal system for the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examination by 2011, said Education Deputy Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“The modular system, which is based on three semesters, is similar to that in the universities where students need only to concentrate on the modules for a particular semester; whereas in the terminal system, the students need to memorise facts they have learnt from Lower Six until their last day in Upper Six,” he said.
Wee said 20-30% of the marks would be based on coursework or projects and other assignments, as well as practical work.
“And 70-80% will be based on the central examination,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today. — Bernama
