KOTA BARU, 19 June 2009: Kelantan PAS has not discussed any proposal to bar party leaders who are in favour of the idea of a unity government with Umno from giving ceramah during the campaign for the Manik Urai state by-election.
State deputy PAS commissioner II Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the proposal was a personal matter and was not reflective of the wishes of party members.
“The issue of barring those who support the idea of a unity government does not arise,” he said when asked to comment on a suggestion by Kelantan PAS supporters’ club deputy president Yap Kok Seng, urging PAS to bar such leaders from giving ceramah in the by-election.
Yap said the club was fully behind PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who was against the formation of a unity government, an idea mooted by party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Mohd Amar said PAS would not rush into implementing proposal by members. He said instead of barring them from giving ceramah, PAS could use other approaches, such as by advising them not to raise the unity government issue.
Asked on the fallout among PAS leaders regarding the unity government proposal, Mohd Amar said Nik Aziz, Abdul Hadi and PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa would meet soon to discuss the matter.
Nik Aziz told Nasharuddin on Wednesday to quit PAS and join Umno if he persisted in discussing the unity government with Umno.
Nik Aziz, when met by reporters after delivering a sermon at the Dataran Ilmu here this morning, declined to comment. — Bernama
