KUANTAN, 25 June 2009: A 15-year-old student fainted after he was beaten up by four seniors at a religious boarding school in Rompin yesterday.
Mohd Ashraf Abdul Aziz was beaten in a surau and the assault was witnessed by 80 other students, but none came to rescue him.
According to the victim’s brother in-law, who did not want to be named, Ashraf was allegedly beaten up for no apparent reason by his seniors, aged 16 and 17, after they finished performing their late-night prayers. He suffered bruises on the face, body and arms in the 1am incident.
“It was too late when the school authorities came to know about the incident. They then brought him to a private clinic before [transferring him] to a public clinic upon his mother’s request,” he told Bernama here today.
The victim’s family lodged a police report about the incident, but later withdrew it after they had talks with representatives from the parent-teacher association of the school.
School principal Nasiruddin Mohamed Yusof said the four students had been expelled.
Rompin CID chief DSP Razali Razak confirmed a police report was received but was later withdrawn. However, he said police would still be investigating the case. — Bernama

I am shocked at the action taken to expel the four. What does the school expect these to grow up [doing]? Beat up more people? The four have a problem that needs to be dealt with – punishment and rehabilitation.
I think educationists and [disciplinarians] are taking a short cut for an easy life! The country will be filled with thugs in the future who will blame society for not caring for them.
