PETALING JAYA, 31 July 2009: Kajang Municipal councillor Tan Boon Wah and technician Lee Wye Wing submitted their DNA samples to the Chemistry Department here today for the inquest into the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock.
Accompanied by two lawyers, the duo arrived at the department at 11:45am to have their DNA samples taken.
The lawyers were Member of Parliament for Segambut Lim Lip Eng and Eric Pok Shyong.
Speaking to reporters at the department, Lim said the duo denied that they had refused to give their DNA samples as reported, but did not do so as they were informed about it at the eleventh hour.
“Tan was contacted by an investigating officer on Tuesday and was told to do so the following day. So was Lee,” said Lim.
He regretted that the duo were accused of being the suspects as they were only assisting in the investigations into Teoh’s death.
The DNA trace of an unidentified man was found on the back of blazer and belt worn by Teoh, who was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam here on 16 July, the inquest was told yesterday before it was adjourned to next Wednesday.
The inquest was told that DNA samples had been taken from 102 people to determine if any of the specimens matched the unknown individual, but so far only 90 tests had been completed. — Bernama
Ritchie says
How certain can any individual who has given his or her DNA samples be that it will not be tampered or “planted” as “evidence” to fabricate it? Malaysians have lost all respect and confidence in the police who are nothing more than Barisan [tools]. DNA samples should never have been taken until independent pathologists have determined what the so-called blood samples on Teoh’s belt were. Fabricated evidence is not something the people of Malaysia should tolerate or accept. Let the truth be known, without fear or favour.
