KUANTAN, 4 Aug 2009: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today dismissed claims by opposition parties that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was a tool of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
He said the MACC was an independent body which was free to investigate and act against anyone it found to have committed an offence.
Najib responded thus when he was asked to comment on the reported arrest of a Terengganu assemblyperson and two other persons by the MACC on Sunday for allegedly having received more than RM20,000 in bribes from a developer.
The trio were held in a hotel room in Kemaman, Terengganu, and are under remand for five days from yesterday for investigation.
“This is proof that the claims by the opposition are baseless,” Najib said in reference to the arrest of the assemblyperson. — Bernama

The PM should give Malaysians more credit because we have come a long way from the kampung, new village and estate mentality. Just by dangling a scapegoat in front of us is not going to convince us that the MACC is not an Umno tool. Stop the wayang and start investigating Toyo and making the PKFZ crooks pay!

Who said MACC is BN’s tool. Nobody said that. Nice doggie.

Najib is so dumb to use the case of Terengganu as an example that MACC is not a BN tool. It is actually worse with that case – MACC has degraded to be a tool of Umno factions! Those factions who are in power are using MACC to rid those of other factions.
And the owner of ‘Khir Palace’ is certainly in the faction that controls MACC, although I am slightly pleased that we have one extra tourist destination in Malaysia.

If Najib is true to his words, then ask him to initiate the investigation on the allegations made on Khir Toyo…

Congratulations Mr.PM. The rakyat are naive and not able to discern right from wrong. Yes, yes, the MACC is not a tool of the BN government. And you Mr PM preach what you teach: that 1Malaysia is for all Malaysians!
So Mr PM, we the people challenge you to request the MACC to investigate the knights and not just the pawns. Bring Khir Toyo and other big fish to justice. Also allow yourself to be investigated for the submarine deal.
Enough of your favourite tagline MACC: “Case closed, not enough evidenceâ€.

If the MACC is not a BN tool, then why isn’t it investigating the sources and manner [in which] Umno leaders [acquired their] wealth, as well as the spending patterns of their wives? Why focus only on targeting Pakatan Rakyat officials?
