SHAH ALAM, 8 Sept 2009: Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said 12 cow-head protesters would be charged under the Sedition Act tomorrow.
“Police will find and record their statements today. They will be charged in court tomorrow,” he said.
When asked by the media why they were not charged today, Khalid said the delay was because a lot of things had to be done before they could be charged in court.
“We did not have time to charge them today. I am confident that they will cooperate with police,” he said.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail had said the protesters would be charged under Section 4 (1) of Sedition Act and an alternative charge under Section 298 of Penal Code.
He said the 12 and other protesters would also be charged under Section 27(5) of Police Act for illegal assembly.
The 12 were among a group of residents of Section 23, Shah Alam who protested in front of Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah here on 28 Aug against the Selangor government decision to relocate a Hindu temple to their area. — Bernama
