PUTRAJAYA, 9 Sept 2009: While there is a slide in the number of Influenza A(H1N1) cases and cases of influenza-like illness, the government would remain vigilant, and the public should do likewise, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said that in Kuantan, Pahang, reported cases have dropped to between 240 and 250 cases daily, compared with between 700 and 800 cases previously.
“The number of cases in other hospitals nationwide has also dropped. Yet, it does not indicate that we can take it easy now. We have to continue taking precautionary measures, and we must continue our awareness campaigns, especially in view of the coming Aidilfitri celebrations.
“Those making balik kampung trips and visiting various places are advised to take extra precaution and observe personal hygiene,” Liow told a press conference here today.
The minister also made public the results of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s findings on the government’s surveillance system and the H1N1 death toll.
“The report reveals that our death toll due to H1N1 is normal, like any other country, and that the ministry’s surveillance system is sensitive and able to act quickly in detecting H1N1 patients,” he said. — Bernama
