PUTRAJAYA, 16 Sept: The government will maintain the Kamunting detention centre as it is an important installation to combat any threat to national security, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein told reporters today.
“Kamunting is there for a reason because it is to protect against threat to security. They (the current detainees) are a threat to security,” he said.
He added that he would do whatever provided by the law to protect the citizens of Malaysia against any threat to their security.
“If there are people out there who are a threat, I will fill Kamunting to the brim,” he said after handing over Malaysian citizenship

Hishammuddin Keris should be asked to explain the different approaches taken by Malaysia, on the one hand, in dealing with “threats to national security” and that taken by other democratic countries like India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US and the United Kingdom. How do these other countries define “national security” and how do they define what is a “threat”? National security is being used as the proverbial fig leaf in Malaysia but Bernama is obviously too dumb to raise this point.

What guarantee is there that anything that represents a threat to Umno’s continued hold on power would not be considered as “a threat to National Security
