SHAH ALAM, 8 Oct 2008: The Selangor water industry will be restructured beginning in the first quarter of next year, said Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
He said the state government’s Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd (KDEB) was in the final stages of implementing the restructuring exercise.
The exercise entails the acquisition of assets from Konsortium ABASS Sdn Bhd, Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Selangor Holding Bhd and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here, today.
Abdul Khalid said the state government had also concluded discussions on the restructuring exercise with the energy, water and communications ministry.
“However, there are still unresolved issues like prices and the value of assets which would be acquired by KDEB from the four companies,” he said when asked on the reason for the delay in the exercise which was planned to start last month.
He said a nine-member panel, which had been set up to study the restructuring exercise, would table its findings in two weeks.
Panel members include Proton Bhd chairperson Datuk Mohammed Azlan Hashim, Member of Parliament for Klang Charles Santiago and former International Trade and Industry parliamentary secretary Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew. — Bernama
