SHAH ALAM, 9 Nov 2009: Selangor state assembly Speaker Teng Chang Khim today ticked off Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s youth movement for wanting to make use of the speaker’s office to hand over a memorandum against Port Klang assemblyperson Badrul Hisham Abdullah.
“I feel offended. This is improper. They can submit the memorandum, but don’t regard the office of the speaker as a post office. The office of the speaker should not be dragged into the matter,” he told a news conference today.
Teng said that the menteri besar’s political secretary, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, had agreed to accept the memorandum. But the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) insisted on wanting the speaker’s office to hand over the memorandum to Badrul Hisham.
“I want AMK to take back the memorandum from my office. I’ll not hand over the memorandum to Badrul Hisham,” he said, adding that he hoped no other political party would follow in AMK’s footsteps.
Earlier, a group of AMK members, led by its information chief Lee Khai Loon, staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the state assembly building before the sitting began today, demanding for Badrul Hisham to resign as assemblyperson.
On 29 Oct 2009, Badrul Hisham declared he was quitting Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) with immediate effect to become a Barisan Nasional (BN)-friendly elected representative.
When met today, Badrul Hisham, who attended today’s state assembly sitting, said he was firm in his stand to be an independent assemblyperson who would support the BN. — Bernama
