KUALA LUMPUR, 9 Nov 2009: The defamation suit by Kelantan state executive councillor Datuk Husam Musa against two Barisan Nasional assemblypersons was settled on 15 Oct 2009 after he withdrew the suit.
Husam, the former PAS vice-president, withdrew the suit after assemblyperson for Bukit Bunga Mohd Adhan Kecik and assemblyperson for Paloh Datuk Nozula Mat Diah made an open apology in the Malay-language newspapers in early June.
Husam’s counsel, Saiful Izham Ramli, told Bernama today that he filed the notice not to proceed with the suit on 15 Oct.
In the suit filed on 31 Jan 2008, Husam sought RM6 million in damages from Mohd Adhan, Nozula and the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) after the two assemblypersons alleged that he was involved in abuse of power and criminal breach of trust in the state government. They had also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate him.
The alleged defamatory statement was published in the New Straits Times and Berita Harian on 28 Nov 2007.
Saiful Izham said, however, that the suit against the NSTP was proceeding and would be heard on 6 April 2010.
The date was fixed by Deputy Registrar Fatimah Rubi’ayah Ali in chambers today. — Bernama
