PUTRAJAYA, 30 Oct 2008: The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) can initiate investigations into claims of money politics in Umno merely based on poison pen letters, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said today.
“It’s not necessarily based on official reports,” he told reporters at the ACA’s 41st anniversary celebration.
However, Nazri said there was no necessity for the ACA to investigate if the claims were mere hearsay or speculation.
Meanwhile, Nazri, whose portfolio includes the ACA, said he decided not to vie for any post in the coming Umno elections because of his Cabinet position.
“This is a criterion I impose on myself. I don’t want, because of me, the ACA’s name is dragged (into the party elections). This is a decision I made myself and not because of any directive for me not to contest,” he said. — Bernama
