ON 25 April 2010, during the Hulu Selangor by-election, four Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) political science students were held by the police on their way to Kuala Kubu Baru. Subsequently, UKM officials appeared and said that the UKM four would be subject to disciplinary action for breaching the Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA).
The Fairly Current Show host Fahmi Fadzil speaks with one of the UKM four — Woon King Chai — about what happened the day they were arrested. The third year political science major hails from Kluang, Johor.
Together with his three friends, he has filed a court injunction against UKM pending a court hearing. The case, challenging the validity of prohibiting university students from participating in politics, will be heard by the High Court on 9 July.
