KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Jan 2009: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will deploy a 30-member team, comprising doctors and medical officials, in a medical aid mission to Gaza, Palestine.
ATM Chief, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal said the team would be deployed soon, together with other humanitarian aid delegations.
“This team is ready to go. They are just awaiting instructions from the government. It’s our initiative with other agencies involved to lend a helping hand,” he told a press conference, here, today.
He said the medical team would be stationed in Palestine for three to four months and will be replaced only if necessary.
“We will also bring along medical equipment including a mobile hospital which not only can offer out-patient treatment but also has facilities for surgery just like a normal hospital,” he said.
Abdul Aziz added that ATM was in the midst of finding a suitable location for the team and that it would not have any problem entering Gaza. — Bernama
