“THE events that take place in a studio — how work is formulated, what happens during its making, the actual conduct of behaviour and material of artists, their struggles and frustrations, and at times the state of inertia — make up a private world hidden from the lay[person],” states the notes in the programme for WORK, an exhibition by RogueArt gallery.
As such, WORK provides a glimpse into the creative worlds of 10 Malaysian artists, whose works are currently on display at the gallery at 19 Jalan Berangan, Kuala Lumpur until Saturday, 30 Jan 2010.
The artworks are accompanied by photographs by Tara Sosrowardoyo that capture these artists in their creative spaces.
These will be featured in an upcoming publication titled WORKING, which will be published using proceeds from the sale of the exhibited works and photos. The book, the first of its kind in Malaysia, will examine the experience of making art from the artists’ perspectives. Publication is aimed at July 2010.
