Assembly dissolution talk mere rumours: Zambry

May 18, 2009

SERI ISKANDAR, 18 May 2009: Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir today claimed that talk of the Perak state assembly being dissolved soon, was mere rumour spread by the opposition in Perak.

He added that there would be no such rumours if the opposition in Perak understood the democratic principles.

“Let such rumours remain because we know that is what they want,” he told reporters at the opening of Silver Jubilee celebrations and Excellence Awards presentations of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sultan Azlan Shah, in Bota near here, by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah today.

Asked if there would be a special sitting next week, Zambry said, “That, too, I consider a rumour.”

Meanwhile, the menteri besar said he had written to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, appealing for an allocation of RM50 million to upgrade the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh, which includes extending the 1,798m runway by 200m, to enable Airbus flights to land here.

“I consider this as a project with high impact and need a quick approval from the government and I hope the prime minister will approve my application,” he said.

He said talks with AirAsia were ongoing and if everything worked out well, AirAsia will become the second airline, besides Firefly, to operate at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport. — Bernama
