KUALA LUMPUR, 18 March 2009: The National Arts Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara) has been declared to be a federal statutory body today.
Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said the move was instituted under the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara) Act (Act 653).
The recognition accorded to Aswara graduates by the arts industry is a testimony to the quality of the courses offered by the academy, he said when making the announcement at the seventh Aswara convention here today.
“We should be proud of the achievements of Aswara graduates, who had been able to further their studies locally and abroad,” he said.
At the function, Aswara awarded an honorary doctorate masters degree in arts to a theatre, bangsawan and Malay movies artist, Abdul Rahman Abu Bakar, 74, or affectionately known as Rahman B. — Bernama
