LUBOK ANTU, 30 March 2009: The Malaysians For Free and Fair Election (Mafrel) has given the thumbs-up to the Election Commission (EC) and the police for the smooth conduct of nominations for the Batang Ai by-election at the sports complex here yesterday.
Its chief coordinator, Peter John anak Jaban, also praised the media.
He said the non-governmental organisation was currently studying the list of 26 voters who, according to the EC, were still active although they were above 100 years old.
He said Mafrel had checked with National Registration Department but so far could not ascertain whether they had died because no report had been received from their families.
“One of the persons we are looking for is Dayang Untat Abg Kamaruden who is still on the EC’s latest list of active voters in March,” he told reporters here today.
The Batang Ai state by-election on 7 April will see a straight fight between the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Malcolm MUssen Lamoh and Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Jawah Gerang. — Bernama
