KOTA BARU, 3 June 2009: The PAS Supporters’ Club, whose members comprised non-Muslims, has called on the party’s spiritual leader, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, to accept the club as a legal entity in PAS.
Its deputy chairman, Yeap Kok Seng, said this was to avoid the forming of factions based on the ethnic and religious background among the club members.
“We don’t want to be like Barisan Nasional (BN) where the Indians, Chinese, Kadazans and Malays are segregated, but to be in one group,” he said in a statement here today.
Yeap said this in response to a proposal by several races to set up PAS supporters clubs based on their respective races.
The setting up of such clubs could lead to racial disintegration and cause a split in the society, he added.
He called on the PAS-led state government not to accept such a club. — Bernama
