Guan Eng to sue Utusan Malaysia, Shabudin Corrected 1.25pm, 25 Feb 2009
We had initially wrongly attributed the quote to Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng. It should be attributed to Penang Islamic Religious Council president Shabudin Yahya.
We apologise for the mistake.
Bar Council urges snap elections in Perak Corrected 12:10am, 20 Feb 2009
We referred to a Bernama report that misrepresented Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan. They reported that the Bar Council’s stand was that Sultan Azlan Shah’s decision for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and the state executive council to step down should not be questioned.
The Bar Council’s actual stand is that it will be difficult to challenge the Sultan’s prerogative in determining who has the majority support of the state assembly. The menteri besar’s appointment is dependent on his or her majority support in the assembly.
We also stated that this is the first time the Bar Council is calling for fresh elections in Perak. This is incorrect. The Bar Council is reiterating its stand for fresh elections.
PR reps got death threats Corrected 19 Feb 2009
We made a mistake with the constituency of Tan Wei Shu. It’s Bakar Arang and not Sidam, as initially reported.
Man responsible for exco’s nude pic not identified Corrected 7:52pm, 16 Feb 2009
Bernama mistakenly reported that the police had identified the man responsible for circulating the nude photos of Selangor executive councilor Elizabeth Wong.
The man has yet to be identified and police are still investigating the case.
Suffer the children Corrected 1pm, 11 Feb 2009
We mistakenly reported that the child of a stateless mother cannot get a birth certificate, without which he or she cannot enrol in school. Children with no documents are entitled to birth registration and certificate but this does not entitle them to Malaysian citizenship nor access to free health and education. Additionally, most parents of these children usually don’t even bother or know how to register their children at birth.
Our inaccurate reporting is regretted.
Swearing-in of new Perak exco under BN Corrected 10.00am, 10 Feb 2009
We mistakenly reported that the court case to declare the Changkat Jering and Behrang assemblypersons as resigned from their positions in the state assembly was scheduled for first day hearing at the Ipoh Sessions Court on the morning of 9 Feb 2009.
It was the first day hearing of the corruption charges against Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang) and Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering). The factual error is regretted.
MP for Bkt Gantang, Perak dies Corrected 1:18pm, 9 Feb 2009
Bernama mistakenly named the Member of Parliament for Bukit Gantang who passed away as Roslan Shaharudin. The name should have been Roslan Shaharum.
We had originally cited press reports that Roslan died in a road accident. The press reports later clarified that he died of a heart attack while cycling.
Perak must not fail Corrected 1:40pm, 7 Feb 2009
The original paragraph stated that Datuk Haris Salleh of Berjaya persuaded governor Tun Mohamed Adnan to appoint Haris as chief minister. This is incorrect. The intended Barisan Nasional-backed chief minister was Tun Mustapha Harun.
Perak crisis Corrected 11:49pm, 5 Feb 2009
We initially inaccurately attributed the comments to DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.
