KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Feb 2009: The Sessions Court here today fixed 19 Feb for re-mention of the case of blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin, charged with defaming the deputy prime minister’s wife, Datin Rosmah Mansor, and two others.
Judge Mohammad Sekeri Mamat fixed the date after allowing an application by deputy public prosecutor Amir Nasruddin for re-mention pending a High Court decision, scheduled for 13 Feb, on a related matter.
On that day, Judicial Commissioner Zainal Azman Ab Aziz, is scheduled to decide on an application pertaining to the transfer of Raja Petra’s case from the Sessions to the Magistrate’s Court.
Raja Petra, 58, on 25 Nov 2008, filed a notice of motion in the High Court seeking an order to refer the transfer issue to the Federal Court on a constitutional point or to remit the case back to the Magistrate’s Court.
Raja Petra, the editor of portal Malaysia-Today, is charged with defaming Rosmah, Lt.Colonel Abdul Aziz Buyong and his wife, Lt. Colonel Norhayati Hassan, in a statutory declaration at the Jalan Court Complex here at 10.25am on 18 June 2008. — Bernama
