KUALA LUMPUR, 14 Jan 2009: Cuba supports Malaysia’s motion condemning Israel’s atrocities on Palestinians in Gaza which was tabled at a special parliament session on 12 Jan.
Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia Carlos Amores said Malaysia had shown it strongly abhorred Israel’s invasion of Gaza.
“The action by Israel is a crime. The resolutions adopted by Malaysian MPs on Monday condemning Israel shows Malaysians are against the Israeli invasion,” he told reporters after being interviewed on the Voices From the South programme on the Traxx Fm radio station, here today.
He said as the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Cuba had issued very strong statements over Israel’s invasion of Gaza.
“NAM has brought this up with the Human Rights Council in Geneva which has also condemned the violation of human rights by Israel in Gaza. Israel acts with impunity because it is supported by the United States, which will use its veto power to prevent the United Nations from acting against Israel,” he said.
On 12 Jan, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi tabled a motion in the Dewan Rakyat calling on the United Nations to immediately set up a war crimes tribunal to investigate and prosecute Israelis suspected of committing war crimes against Palestinians.
