KUALA TERENGGANU, 12 Jan 2009: Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan has reminded certain groups not to politicise the presence of police in the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election.
He said that police personnel were here to maintain order to ensure that the 17 Jan by-election process was progressing smoothly.
“Only 3,500 police personnel have been deployed in the by-election and not 10,000 as claimed by certain groups,” he told reporters.
He said that police had made a thorough preparation to face any eventuality to ensure that public safety was safeguarded at all times.
On an article in a political party’s publication pertaining to the construction of the police tactical centre here, Mohd Shukri said, the force had been implementing continuous improvement to give the best service to the people.
He said that the centre was set up based on the concept of neighbourhood police and that traders were happy with police presence in their midst. — Bernama
