KUALA KRAI, 26 June 2009: The door to discussion is always open if PAS wanted to proceed with the idea of forming a unity government, said Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan.
He said although the proposal had been shot down by the Pakatan Rakyat, which also involves the DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Umno did not dismiss the possibility that the plan could become a reality.
“Umno supported the proposal because unity will not only bring benefits to [Malay Malaysians], but also other races,” he said.
“We still hope to holding discussions with PAS on unity government without its allies in the Pakatan, because if they are there, it’s quite hard to succeed,” he told reporters here today.
Since Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak believes that not all PAS leaders reject the idea of a unity government, Umno does not consider the proposal as having been buried, Ahmad added. — Bernama
