PUTRAJAYA, 29 June 2009: The government plans to provide double tax deduction for companies providing daycare centres (taska) at workplaces, said Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan.
She said this was to encourage employers to pool their resources in setting up taska for the children of their staff, which would help ease the burden of staff having to depend on maids, especially from Indonesia, to look after their children while they are working.
“The incentive is still at the proposal stage and the ministry is still discussing it with employers,” said Maznah.
On the readiness of the Philippine government to send maids to Malaysia, she said Human Resources Minister Datuk S Subramaniam had to iron out the Indonesian maid issue with the republic first.
It was reported that the Philippines was ready to send between 50,000 and 60,000 Muslim women from Mindanao to replace Indonesian maids. — Bernama
