RAUB, 24 Sept 2008: Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has reminded Umno leaders and members wishing to contest for divisional posts in the state not to drag the palace into politics in their attempts to gain support.
He said that doing so would only complicate the situation and create confusion among party members.
Those wishing to contest should instead rely on their own strength and leadership calibre, he said.
“Although some aspiring candidates did come to see me, that does not mean I endorsed their candidacies,” he told reporters after meeting local leaders, members of the civil service and non-governmental organisations in the district.
Earlier in his speech, Tengku Abdullah called on the people not to quarrel with one another because of political differences.
He said the general election had long passed and the people should now concentrate on working extra hard in the wake of the uncertainties in the global economy. — Bernama
