PUTRAJAYA, 14 Jan 2009: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has put 11 items on the maximum price control list under its festival price control scheme for Chinese New Year (CNY) 2009.
“Under the scheme from Jan 19-Feb 2 lasting 15 days, the maximum wholesale and retail price of 11 items at 138 areas nationwide will be fixed,” its minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad told a press conference here today.
The items under price control are live chicken, standard chicken (processed with leg, head, liver and gizzard), super chicken (processed without leg, head, liver and gizzard), local beef and buffalo beef imported from India.
Chicken eggs (grades A, B and C), imported cabbage from Indonesia and China, (excluding from Beijing), bawal putih (under 400 gm ) and udang putih.
Shahrir said there are 2,980 maximum price comprising 1,490 wholesale price and 1,490 retail price during CNY.
The items priced lower than that during Aidil Fitri and Deepavali are live chicken, standard chicken and super chicken in 138 areas while the price of Indian buffalo beef is lower in 86 areas.
Grade A,B and C eggs are fixed higher at wholesale and retail for 85 areas due to higher production cost and a balanced supply.
The prices of bawal putih and udang putih besar are also fixed higher.
Shahrir reminded traders to adhere to the maximum price fixed and urged them to apply for the free licences from the ministry.
He assured consumers of adequate supply during the festival period. — Bernama
