PETALING JAYA, 24 July 2009: The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) in the Prime Minister’s Department will submit a comprehensive proposal to resolve the toll issue, including nationalisation of toll operators, to the government soon.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said an in-depth study of the issue was still in progress.
“It should be considered by the cabinet first and (once approved) it would be announced in due course,” he told reporters after launching Malaysia Property Incorporated here today.
Nor Mohamed said in April the proposal would be forwarded to the government in three months. However, it has yet to be announced.
EPU was tasked with reviewing all aspects, including relevant agreements and its economic impact, in drawing up the proposals.
Ekuinas
On Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas), Nor Mohamed said the selection of the committees was still pending.
“It will take some time as we want to pick the best candidates,” he said, adding that a few names have been shortlisted.
“The selection will be done with full transparency and there is no other agenda besides the bumiputera agenda,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had earlier this month announced the government would set up Ekuinas, an institution to help capable bumiputera entrepreneurs.
However, no timeframe was set on when Ekuinas would kick off.
“Actually, we are in the process of registering the institution. There are some procedures to be complied with the Companies Commission of Malaysia,” Nor Mohamed said. — Bernama
