PENANG, 12 April 2009: The name of the new deputy chief minister (I) will be announced on Wednesday, said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
He said he was still waiting for feedback from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as to who should be appointed to the position.
He said that although he had been vested with the power to appoint his deputy, in the spirit of comradeship, he had asked Anwar to nominate a candidate to fill the post.
Lim was speaking to reporters after attending the village security and development committees’ swearing-in ceremony at the Penang Caring Society Complex here today.
It was reported that Batu Maung assemblyperson Abdul Malik Abul Kassim and Sungai Bakap assemblyperson Maktar Shapee were among the top candidates for the post of Penang deputy chief minister (I).
The seat fell vacant when PKR’s Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin, who is also Penanti state assemblyperson, resigned on April 8. — Bernama
