KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Nov 2008: The National Fatwa Council will issue a guideline on swearing in accordance with Islamic rites to address confusions and differences of opinion over the matter.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the council was collating views from authoritative sources so that there would be no more confusion over the subject.
He was speaking to reporters after attending an award presentation for Baitulmal students here today.
Meanwhile, Zahid said a fatwa institute, to be called Darul Iftaq, would be set up to study previously issued fatwas and those that would be issued and compared them with fatwas in other countries.
For a start, he said, the institute would operate as a unit under the Islamic Affairs Department and would be upgraded later as a full-fledged department under the Islamic Religious Council. — Bernama
