JITRA, 9 Jan 2009: Vehicles from foreign countries like Singapore and Thailand which enter Malaysia are exempted from the rear seat belt ruling, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said today.
He said the ruling was only for Malaysian registered vehicles, but did not rule out the possibility of foreign vehicles being included in the future.
“But, it would be better if the rear passengers also wear the belts because the (foreign) vehicles are already fitted with the rear seat belts,” he told reporters after opening a new building block for Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan
Cina Pei Min at Padang Sera, near here today.
Earlier in his speech, Ong said the federal government had allocated RM150,000 for academic and co-curriculum development at the school. — Bernama
