KUANTAN, 17 Oct 2008: A former assistant accountant of the Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) today pleaded not guilty in four Sessions Courts here to committing 25 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) totalling over RM91,000 between February and March 2006.
Zamily Nur Zainal Abidin, 35, from No 36, Lorong Indera Mahkota here, is alleged to have committed the offence at his office at the MPK building in Jalan Air Putih in the city.
In Sessions Courts 1, 2 and 3, he was charged with committing six each of the offences respectively and in Sessions Court 4, seven counts.
He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which provides for jail up to 20 years and fine and whipping, if convicted.
Zamily Nur is alleged to have siphoned a total of RM91,623 out RM313,855.16 from bill and fines collections made by MPK during the period.
Judges Siti Aminah Ghazali and Habibah Mohd Yusoff who heard his case set bail at RM10,000 and RM25,000 respectively and fixed 17 Nov for re-mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat appeared for the prosecution while Zamily Nur was represented by lawyer Malina Mamat. — Bernama
