KOTA BARU, 30 Jan 2009: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is searching for 44,000 people nationwide, categorised as hardcore poor, to bring them above the poverty line.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said 11,000 or 25% had been identified under “Projek Cari” (Find project) and registered with E-Kasih. Some of them had been categorised as hardcore poor.
“The economic downturn will not stop us from searching and helping the poor,” she told reporters at a Chinese New Year function organised by MCA here today.
To this end, the ministry had appointed 800 temporary staff including 58 in Kelantan to register the 3,500 hardcore poor in the state in three months.
Ng said the ministry was also searching to help the disabled (OKU) who had been categorised as hardcore poor. — Bernama
