KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Dec 2008: The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry will review the castration of monkeys if the action leads to harm and negative results.
“If the action is effective it will be carried out,” said the ministry’s Deputy Minister Senator Datuk Maznah Mazlan in the Dewan Rakyat today.
She said this in reply to a supplementary question by Prof Dr P Ramasamy (DAP-Batu Kawan) who wanted to know of methods other than culling and castration of monkeys who destroy farmers’ crops.
Replying to Abd Rahman Bakri (BN-Sabak Bernam) on whether the government proposed to reward people who caught pests like monkeys, Maznah said there was no such allocation.
“So far there is no need for that. Biologically, the ‘pilot’ project of castration can be considered to be a step in that direction,” she said. — Bernama
