PENANG, 8 April 2009: The Penang state executive council has left it to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to decide on the position of the deputy chief minister I.
Lim said this was decided at the council meeting this morning.
“This appointment is the prerogative of the chief minister who will consult with all the relevant parties,” he said in a statement here today.
Lim said Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin’s resignation as deputy chief minister and state executive councillor would take effect today but he would remain as Penanti assemblyperson.
On 21 March, Mohammad Fairus tendered his resignation which was to take effect today.
Earlier, state PKR chairperson Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said he would hold a meeting within the party to discuss the nominee for the post. — Bernama
