KUALA LUMPUR, 24 March 2009: Perak state executive council member Hamidah Osman has withdrawn from contesting the post of Wanita Umno executive council member.
Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz said today the decision was to enable Hamidah to concentrate on her duties as the Sungai Rapat assemblyperson and as Perak state executive council member.
“There are two Wanita Umno candidates who are no longer in the list of candidates, namely Hamidah who had just announced her withdrawal and Salmah (Pin) who has lost the eligibility to contest,” she told reporters after attending the movement’s pre-council meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Salmah was suspended for three years after the party’s disciplinary board found her guilty of breaching party ethics.
Rafidah said many delegates were not aware of the situation as Hamidah’s and Salmah’s pictures were still in the nomination papers.
On Wanita Umno’s preparation for the general assembly, she said, the movement would only debate the president’s speech, covering topics like the economy, education, religion and politics.
She also called on members of the movement to go to Bukit Gantang in Perak and Bukit Selambau in Kedah as soon as the general assembly was over to assist the Barisan Nasional campaign in the two by-elections. — Bernama
